The ECE Affiliates Program

The new ECE Affiliates Program is a loose relationship between the ECE Department and local engineering industry. Companies participating in the program have an unprecedented level of access to our students for recruitment, sponsored research, and even input to their education.

Benefits for Affiliate Companies

ECE Affiliates enjoy a myriad of benefits, including but certainly not limited to:

  • Opportunities to speak to undergraduate student clubs through informal seminars and recruiting events
  • Discounted access to fund a sponsored Clinic research project with a team of students
  • Invitations to and opportunities for presenting in the ECE Department's Annual Technical Open House
  • Chances to attend on-campus seminars with renowned engineers from around the world
  • Proof of their commitment to higher education and the continued progress of modern engineering programs
  • Contact within the department to pursue mutually-beneficial events and projects on an individual basis

The Importance of Affiliates

Modern electrical and computer engineering fields are constantly expanding. Our new cultures of information and communication have created entirely new areas of research and innovation in engineering.

A university alone lacks the applied knowledge to educate students in such a quickly-changing discipline. However, industry lacks the opportunity to give valuable input to the education of new engineers. The result is a generation of engineering students unprepared for the new technical challenges they will face upon graduation.

The ECE Department at the Univeristy of Utah meets this challenge head-on. By bridging the gap between industry and formal education, the ECE Department has set a goal of preparing our students with hands-on, real-world experience and knowledge so they are prepared to contribute to modern fields of engineering from their first day in the workplace.

The Department's relationship with affiliated companies provides a two-way communication channel for improving, modifying, and sharing both education and research opportunities to ensure the continued growth and success of applied electrical and computer engineering fields.
