Engineering Clinic Program DescriptionThe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah has established an Engineering Clinic Program to provide industry with the direct benefits of collaborations with its students and faculty members. This program places senior engineering students in specially equipped University laboratories to tackle problems of concern to individual corporate sponsors. The students work under faculty and corporate supervision. By participating, companies invest in engineering's future, and in return gain access to highly skilled faculty, well-trained students and state-of-the-art research facilities. Students earn course credits and the opportunity to apply academic skills to engineering problems. Faculty make contacts with industry that potentially open new avenues of research, and the University benefits from an engineering curriculum substantially enriched by the realism of engineering practice. Sponsoring companies get to solve an engineering problem that is important to them, and they receive a comprehensive final report. During the course of the project, sponsors also get a close-up look at some of Utah's brightest engineering students as possible future employees. The program encourages industry to submit only those kinds of projects that will benefit them directly and that could be completed at comparatively low cost within two academic semesters. Faculty Expertise and Laboratory Facilities
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has strong research programs in communications, signal processing and control systems, analog and digital VLSI, optics, microwaves and SAR testing, semiconductor devices and materials. There are well-equipped laboratory facilities in all areas listed above. Information on Individual Faculty Research.
