Student Activities and Clubs

Student activities at the U range from smaller department-level associations to campus-wide clubs.

A comprehensive list of student groups can be found on the ASUU Student Groups site.

The College of Engineering also keeps a list of engineering-specific student groups.

The ECE Department directly sponsors the following clubs.

Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders is a non-profit humanitarian organization established to partner with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life. This partnership involves the implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while involving and training internationally responsible engineers and engineering students.

IEEE

IEEE is both a student and professional organization dedicated to the advancement of technology. Membership is open to all ECE students.

The IEEE name was originally an acronym for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. Today, the organization's scope of interest has expanded into so many related fields that it is simply referred to by the letters I-E-E-E (pronounced Eye-triple-E).

Society of Women Engineers

SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.

Tau Beta Pi

TBP is the only national engineering honor society at the University of Utah. TBP members are known not only for their academic excellence, but also for their excellent character and leadership qualities. Moreover, the engineering industry is filled with TBP members, so employers know from experience that members make good employees.

Student Advisory Council (SAC)

  2. Communicate student issues to teachers, courses, and requirements to the department
  3. Provide Retention, Promotion and Tenure (RPT) reports for professors
