Departmental Scholarships for the 2009-2010 Academic Year

Scholarships are available for freshmen, transfer students, and U of U continuing students who are majoring or intend to major in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.

Submit forms to the department office. Only one application is needed to apply for all scholarships below.

Tuition scholarships Recipients must be Utah residents.
Electrical Engineering Alumni Scholarship No restrictions.
Robert G. and Mary Jane Engman scholarship No restrictions.
Elaine K. Hunter Memorial Scholarship Preference is given to a woman.
Stephen Karl Memorial Scholarship Must be awarded to a U.S. citizen who is not a Utah resident.
Paul G. Morse Memorial Scholarship "An exceptional student or students who have demonstrated outstanding promise, interest, and academic excellence in the field of Electrical Engineering."
Roland W. Ure Scholarship (Honors Dr. Ure, a professor in the Electrical Engineering Department who was killed in a plane crash.) No restrictions.
George A. Hanks Memorial Scholarship Must be U.S. citizens. Only for sophomore, junior, or senior students. “Shall have a minimum GPA of 3.3, a record of good school citizenship, and no prior history of the use or sale of illegal drugs. …Preference will be given to nonresident students from Idaho. If no Idaho students qualify, then to any nonresident students.”
Micron Technology Foundation EE and CE juniors (2 years)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better; preference given to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement.
  • Leadership ability as reflected in a short biography with a clear statement of personal and professional goals, an academic résumé that includes service and leadership experiences, a strong faculty recommendation, or other demonstrations determined by the selection committee.
  • Recipients must maintain full time status (12 credit hours per semester), maintain their EE or CE field of study, and a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Surface Mount Technology Association No restrictions.
Lawrence D. Schroder "The most outstanding junior student"
Intermountain Power Agency At least a sophomore status. Native born Utah resident and/or graduated from a Utah high school. Preference given to those interested in a career within the power systems industry.
