The main duties of the SAC are to 1) Provide a forum for student concerns. 2) Communicate students issues with teachers, courses, and requirements to the department. 3) Provide Retention, Promotion and Tenure (RPT) reports for professors. RPT Explanation:
Retention:
For
the professors on tenure track it means the professor has 7 years to
gain tenure. Then every three years they are evaluated for retention.
(The opposite of retention is to be let go.)
Promotion:
Promotion
is moving up the ladder from assistant professor, associate professor
to full professor. This is part of the tenure track.
Tenure:
To
hold a position with tenure means that appointment to such a position
is considered permanent and is not subject to termination or
substantial reduction in status without adequate cause, provided that
in all cases the services of the individual continue to be needed and
that funds are available to pay for them.
