Squamish, Feb. 20, 2005
The weekend after Trev came down
to visit us in Seattle, Roanne and I drove up to
visit him in Vancouver,
where he was staying with his friend Fil. We hung out in Vancouver
on Saturday, enjoying the nice weather with a run around Stanley Park
and a walk to MEC, and then on Sunday we made the pilgrimage to the holy land, Squamish. We
started out with some climbing in the Smoke Bluffs, which was fun. Apparantly
people like the sun, because it seemed like everyone climbing in the Smokies that day was at the preeminent southern facing
crag, Penny Lane. We did a few runs on the crags namesaky, Penny
Lane (5.9), then did a
run up Quarryman (5.8), then decided to go do a hike. Shown below are photos of me on Penny Lane and Roanne on Quarryman:

We headed to the Chief, and hiked up the third summit, which
none of us had been up before. It
is the highest and least traveled summit of the chief, and we all enjoyed the
hike and the views from the top. It
had a great view of Mount
Garibaldi to the north,
and there was noone else up there. Shown below is Roanne and myself standing at the edge of a sheer cliff
with Garibaldi looming in the background:

up to the summit proper:
