The Home Wall
Breaking news! Click here for the newly
released guidebook to my homewall!
On November 16, my brother Trev came down
to visit from Vancouver, and we began construction on a small climbing
wall in our garage. On that weekend, we finalized the plans, and
got most of the materials. We started building by anchoring the
base,
and framing part of the wall. Since then, I have been working on
the
wall sporadically, and it is now mostly framed, as can be seen in the
picture below.
It has three four foot wide sections, at 10, 20, and 30 degrees
overhung. There is a two foot wide section between each of the
aforementioned pieces, which transitions between them. It is
about 8 feet tall.
It will be pretty cool when it is done, I have one transition
section
left to frame, and then I can start putting up the plywood sheets.
I
will post more pictures as it gets closer to completion, stay tuned.
Here is an updated shot of the climbing wall. Notice that it is
now completely framed, and part of the plywood sheeting has been added.
The transition sections take a long time, but only one more to
go,
then it is all gravy. I am going to try and finish it off during
the
Christmas break, and will post more photos as soon as I am done.
Also
notice that it is snowing in this picture, sucks!
Well, construction of the climbing wall is finally complete, as shown
in the picture above. I finished it in early January, and have
now
given the entire wall one coat of white paint. The next step will
be
to add the custom artwork, which will hopefully happen in the next few
weeks,
and then a picture will be posted. Then I will put the holds on
and
actually (gasp!) climb on it! The good news is that I haven't
been
climbing the entire time I have been building the wall I have not been
climbing
due to a finger injury, but now it feels a lot better so I will
actually
get to try the wall I have built.
Okay, now the climbing wall artwork was been completed, and it is ready
for the holds to be added. I painted it in a similar style to my
old
wall, but this version has more colours. It was inspired by Puff
Daddy
and rap music.
And here is the final version, with most of the holds applied. I
still
have to add the screw-ons, but it is now open season for climbing in
the
garage! Anyone who wants to try it out just send me an e-mail,
and
I will let you know what the hours and membership rates are (har har,
just kidding, it is free to anyone willing to come climb with
me). Here are some photos of the wall in action:
