The ECE Social Hour with Rohde & Schwarz on Nov. 20 students had an opportunity to become more acquainted with the company and to see real life and real-time applications of RF signals.

Rohde & Schwarz is a privately owned global company.

Sales Engineer Kyla Coubrough explained that Rohde & Schwartz designs and manufactures (among other things) RF and Microwave Test Instrumentation. These include spectrum analyzers, analog and vector signal generators, vector network analyzers, RF power meters, oscilloscopes, EMI receivers and antennas.

The worldwide company has a Utah-based team, including account managers and application engineers.

The company is involved in quantum technology, 5G/6G research, education, material science, particle acceleration, and antenna research.

RF Applications Engineer Rick Daniel demonstrated how car fobs and avalanche beacons function via RF signals. Rick used a car fob and instrumentation to measure the instantaneous change in reception of RF signals. He also mentioned how the need for RF radar is growing. He said that modern cars may have a dozen RF radar sensors/instruments.

The company has free, on-demand content for education and also paid content with certifications on the Rohde & Schwarz Technology Academy website.
