WORKING & PART-TIME STUDENTS

Over 50% of our Master’s students work in industry and/or complete the program part-time. Whether you are looking to improve your career potential, have an industry sponsor for your education, or just want to grow and improve your knowledge and gain expertise, we are here to support students achieve their goals!

Flexibility

We offer a portion of our courses through the following modalities to benefit students:
  • In Person – traditional classroom and/or lab experience
  • Remote Real-Time – lectures streamed synchronously via Zoom
  • Online – completely asynchronous, with all materials and recordings available on Canvas

For a list of these course see the Online, Remote, & Evening Courses tab on our Graduate Course Offerings page.

Graduate Course Offerings

While our department does not offer courses during the summer term, students are welcome to take any graduate-level courses offered by allied STEM departments to apply towards their degree. We also encourage students to consider meeting with the Graduate Student Coordinator to determine if they can earn credit for their work

Alternative Degree Completion Schedules

While our 30-credit Master’s program is designed to be completed by full-time students in 3 semesters of coursework we do have a significant portion of our graduate students who complete the program part-time.

Every student has different goals and challenges as well as strengths and capabilities. Because of this we offer students the ability choose each semester how many courses they wish to take to augment the pace of their learning. We do not use cohorts so students are not locked in to any schedule and may change their pacing at any time.

Many students are eager to move through their studies and complete their degree quickly. Students can graduate in fewer calendar years by transferring previously earned graduate credits and/or choosing the project option and completing it during any term (Spring, Summer, or Fall).

We also understand that life can be unpredictable and many of our graduate students have to balance outside responsibilities and commitments (family, work, finances, etc.). If a student is admitted to the program, but find themselves unable to start, they may request a deferment of admission for up to one year. If already matriculated into the program, students can also request a Leave of Absence.

If you have additional questions or would like advisement on your individual situation, our program’s Graduate Student Coordinator is happy to help!

Proficiency Requirements

We admit and accommodate many students returning for a graduate degree, even if they did not graduate with a prior Electrical or Computer Engineering undergraduate degree. For prospective students who have earned an allied STEM degree, we have streamlined our prerequisite coursework to customizable based on your background and your future academic and career goals. Once admitted we require you complete simple proficiency courses as part of your graduate program of study.

Common allied degrees we admit:

  • Physics
  • Computer Science
  • Biomedical, Chemical, and Mechanical Engineering
